The following is part of a series of articles to help you Discover Your
Giftedness in Christ. The first portion is just a short introduction to the
longer article. The rest of this article can be read on the internet.
Every man has his proper gift of God. 1 Corinthians 7:7
Being gifted is nothing new. It is as old as the Holy Scriptures.
Identifying and understanding our giftedness is not a modern psychological
discovery. It’s an ancient truth for modern times!
There’s also a misconception that certain gifts are better than others.
There are now “gifted programs” in many schools, suggesting that the gifts
that some students have are more important than those of their peers.

Every child is gifted—naturally. And every child of God is also
gifted—supernaturally. God gives every person a good gift—his or her
personality at conception. Additionally, God gives everyone who trusts Him
as Savior the exact gifts he or she needs at new birth.
- God only gives perfect gifts—“Every good gift and every perfect gift is
from above” (James 1:17).
- God gives gifts to us so that we might be the "firstfruits of His
creation" (James 1:18).
In other words, we are obviously special to God
because He made our giftedness a priority in creation.
The psalmist reminds us, "It is He who has made us and not we ourselves"
(Psalm 100:3). Scripture also reveals and underscores God’s truth about our
lives: we are "wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14).
Our giftedness reflects the unique way we think, feel, and act. It’s the way
God made or "wired" us. We all have God-given personalities that affect our
natural motivations. As Christians, we also have spiritual gifts that
influence our supernatural motivations. Identifying our giftedness can be
exciting and enlightening.
Society and human nature often make people feel as though they are not
gifted. Some may doubt the idea that they are special, but this is not true.
Actually, everyone is gifted. We may not feel special, but we are—not
because of what we do or say but because of who lives in us and who is
motivating us through the gifts of His Spirit.
