The following is part of a series of articles to help you Discover Your
Giftedness in Christ. The first portion is just a short introduction to the
longer article. The rest of this article can be read on the internet.
Without a doubt, many people suffer from poor self-images. Somewhere along
the line, they have believed a lie and thought that they have not been
gifted by God to do anything. This thought of not being gifted is difficult
for them to accept. Beginning early in life, we are influenced by the idea
that some people are special and others aren’t. However, regardless of I.Q.
or special abilities, every child of God needs to understand that he or she
is special.

Our society has been drilled on achieving results, but God looks at the
heart. He is not worried about our achieving the highest position in life.
Instead, His concern is that we learn how to walk in total devotion with Him
each day. Once we learn how to love Him, we will know how to love others and
our gifts will come shining through—not so others can praise us but so they
also can learn how to praise God.
Identifying our natural motivations and giftedness helps us feel better
about ourselves. But this doesn’t mean that we are “sufficient unto
ourselves” (2 Corinthians 3:5). No matter how gifted we may feel, we still
need God. If we forget this, we will head straight into deep trouble. Our
giftedness doesn’t negate our need for a Savior. It does not remove our
guilt and need for God’s forgiveness. The Bible is clear concerning our
“lost” and empty condition apart from Christ.
The prophet Isaiah tells us “all we like sheep have gone astray” (53:6).
Just as sheep need a shepherd, we need help with our lives. We especially
need forgiveness, peace, and purpose, which only God can provide. Divine
direction only comes when we trust Christ as our Savior and allow Him to be
our Shepherd in life.
Once we settle our eternal destiny and relationship with God, then we are
able to deal with our difficulties here on earth. We can now control
ourselves and improve our relationships with others. Becoming a Christian
has so many benefits.
Every believer is blessed with certain spiritual gifts. No one has all the
gifts. God gave different gifts to different people so that we would need
each other as we live our lives for Him. Romans 12:3 teaches, “Don’t think
more highly of yourself than you ought.” God made each part of the body to
function separately, yet dependent upon the rest of the body. He has made us
to operate as the body of Christ in the same way. The arm needs the elbow
and the foot needs the leg. One cannot function without the other and the
same is true of our roles in the body of Christ.
