| Church Members' 'Shape' For Ministry
Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church popularized finding your 'SHAPE' for ministry. Relating the word 'SHAPE' to: 'S' for 'Spiritual Gifts.' 'H' for 'Heart and Passion,' 'A' for 'Abilities,' 'P' for 'Personalities,' and 'E' for 'Experiences,' it is a great way to teach members how to find their places for ministries in the church. Every member is a minister! Someone has said, 'Everybody is Somebody in His Body!' Christians need to be taught that involvement in their local churches is part of God's Great Commission and Call For Discipleship. We also need to get 'in shape' for God and fulfill His Mission in our lives.

Placing and Networking Members into ministry is very practical and powerful. There are several assessments and programs designed to help churches place and network members. One of the most important features of any program is if it combines spiritual and natural motivations, i.e. Spiritual Gifts and DISC Personality Types. If not, individuals are learning only half the insights they need to be properly placed or networked into the ministries of their churches. Notice if the assessment or profile being used has numerous pages combining Spiritual Gifts with DISC Personality Types.
Also be sure to look for a thorough section in the profile used on Conflict Resolution and Management. Once members get placed or networked into ministry, they need to be taught how to avoid and resolve conflicts. Conflicts are inevitable ‹ 'Where two or three are gathered together, someone is fixin to have a fight!' This really isn't funny, because members often get uninvolved and it is harder to get them involved again later. Like 'Pavlov's dog' people become conditioned to avoid the hurt and pain of ministry.
Getting members involved in the various ministries of the church is extremely important to their spiritual growth and the overall health of the church. Church health has become more important than Church Growth. The strongest and biblically healthiest churches have the majority of their members actively serving in some capacity of ministry.
Someone described working in a church like a football game ‹ there are 22 players on the field desperately needing rest, while there are 50,000 fans in the stands, desperately needing exercise. The 80/20 rule is common in most churches. 80% of the people are 'spectators,' while 20% are 'participators.' Also 20% of the people are doing 80% of the work causing many members to 'burn-out' or become discouraged. Pastors and leaders must improve their assimilation and networking of members into ministry or continue to suffer the consequences.
Helping members discover their giftedness and 'shape' for ministry will encourage and energize them better than most other efforts. Focusing on membership involvement and finding a place for every member is extremely important for every church. Teaching members how to avoid and resolve conflicts is also imperative, because most of the problems in the church today are not theological, but relational.
Conflict Resolution Management is no longer an option. Understanding how Spiritual Gifts and DISC Personality Types respond in conflicts is very enlightening. Both motivations must be understood. Personality insights by themselves are not enough. Combining Spiritual Gifts with DISC Personality Types can save hours in counseling, teaching, and training time.
